Lesson 2.0
Welcome to Module 2: Let's Build the Foundation Together
✔ Completed
Purpose
By the end of this lesson, the vocabulary in Module 2 will stop feeling like a locked door. You don’t need a business degree for any of what’s coming. Most of these terms are just formal names for things you’ve already been thinking about. We’re simply going to put language to them.
Use This When
Use this lesson when:
- Terms like “USP” or “mission statement” make you quietly assume everyone else already knows what they mean
- You are not sure why a single module needs ten lessons
- You want the big picture before you start filling in the details
- You are tempted to skip ahead because the vocabulary feels intimidating
Before You Start
Nothing but your Module 1 work. If your Brand Voice Profile is saved somewhere easy to find, keep it close. You will be pasting it into conversations constantly starting in a few lessons.
Why Module 2 Exists
In Module 1, we taught AI how you sound. In Module 2, we teach it what your business actually is. That is the entire job of this module. Ten lessons, one outcome: a set of documents AI can pull from instead of guessing, every time you ask it for help. No more re-explaining your business from scratch in every new conversation.
By the time you finish, you will not just have completed ten lessons. You will have a reusable business foundation you can hand AI over and over again:
- Business Profile
- Ideal Customer Profile
- Business Difference Profile
- Unique Selling Proposition
- Plain-English Business Description
- Elevator Pitch Toolkit
- Customer Pain Point Profiles
- Service Opportunity List
- Company Mission Statement
- Business Core Values & Decision Compass
Each one gives AI a little more context, so its answers get more accurate, more personal, and more useful, without you repeating yourself.
The Vocabulary, Translated
Here is what is coming, in plain language. Skim it once. You will not need to remember any of it. You are going to build it.
-
Business Profile - Your business’s owner’s manual. Not your website, not your marketing copy. Just the facts, so AI stops asking the same three questions in every new conversation.
-
Ideal Customer - Not about excluding anyone. It is about knowing exactly who benefits most from what you do. Once you know that person, everything downstream gets easier.
-
What Makes You Different - Almost every business owner reaches for the same words first: quality, service, care. Every business says that. This lesson finds what customers actually notice.
-
USP (Unique Selling Proposition) - Ignore the fancy name. It answers one question: why should someone choose you instead of the business down the street?
-
Plain English - People don’t buy what they don’t understand. If a customer has to translate your website before deciding whether you’re a fit, most will not bother.
-
Elevator Pitch - Not a sales pitch, and not Shark Tank. Just a clear answer to “what do you do,” short enough to say out loud without losing the room.
-
Customer Pain Points - Customers usually hand you the symptom first, not the real problem. This lesson is about slowing down before jumping to a solution.
-
Service Ideas - AI is brainstorming here, not deciding. That distinction comes up again and again in this course: AI proposes, you decide.
-
Mission Statement - Not something you write because businesses are supposed to have one. It is your compass. It answers why the business exists, and it helps you say no to the projects that don’t fit.
-
Core Values - Not words you hang on a wall. They are the rules you reach for when the answer isn’t obvious: should you refund this customer, hire this person, take this project.
Dobie Tip
None of this needs to be memorized today. By Lesson 2.10, you will have used every term at least once, and it will read like your own language instead of borrowed jargon.
Follow-Up Questions
- “Which of these ten terms do I already have a rough answer for, even if I have never written it down?”
- “Which one makes me the most nervous, and why?”
- “If I only finished three lessons in this module, which three would move the needle most for my business right now?”
Expected Result
By the end of this lesson, you should have:
- A plain-English understanding of all ten Module 2 terms
- Confidence that none of this requires an MBA
- A sense of the ten documents you will walk away with by Lesson 2.10
-
Permission to treat this module as a set of working drafts, not final answers
- Save This
Module 2 Vocabulary Map Optional, but worth doing: jot a one-line definition for each of the ten terms above, in your own words. Nothing formal. Just enough to prove the vocabulary already makes sense to you. You will thank yourself in Lesson 2.4.
Why This Matters
Someone who has run a business for twenty years reads “USP” and nods along. Someone starting their first business reads the same word and quietly assumes they are supposed to already know it. They are not behind. The vocabulary was just never explained to them. This lesson closes that gap before it costs you the rest of the module. None of what you build here is permanent, either. A mission statement can grow. Your ideal customer can change. Your services can evolve. Coming back next year to update these documents is not a sign you got it wrong the first time. It is a sign the business is still growing.
Common Mistakes
Skipping this lesson because it feels like fluff. It isn’t. It’s the map. Skip it, and you get lost in 2.4 instead. Treating these ten documents as permanent. Your business will change. These are working tools, not monuments. Assuming every lesson needs to be perfect before you move to the next one. Rough drafts are allowed. You refine as you go. Waiting until you “understand business” better before starting. You already understand your business. This module just gives it words.

Lesson 2.1: Introduce Your Business to AI
Time to build the first document: your Business Profile, the source material for everything else in this module.
